PROPAGATION
WHAT.
Establish a secure network of ex-situ collections to conserve climate threatened tropical mountain plants.
WHY.
All of our target species are restricted to the mountains of Queensland's Wet Tropics. Despite being securely protected in National Parks, climate change is predicted to eliminate most suitable habitat for these plants within a hundred years.
HOW.
To conserve these plants, the Australian Tropical Herbarium is working with Botanic Gardens in Victoria, ACT and NSW to research the best propagation methodologies and ultimately establish genetically diverse reserve populations.
