GENETIC
ANALYSIS
WHAT.
Determine landscape patterns of genetic diversity of climate threatened tropical mountain plants to inform ex-situ conservation strategies and interpretation of physiological response to extreme climates.
WHY.
By determining the landscape patterns of genetic diversity, we can select the populations which best represent the genetic diversity of the target species and conserve them in our Botanic Gardens populations.
HOW.
If we are to conserve these rare species, we must also give thought to conserving their innate genetic diversity. If a species occurs across several mountaintops, are these separate mountaintop populations genetically unique, or do they display some degree of genetic exchange across their distribution?
